5th grade teacher Kevin Murphy gives back through his own nonprofit Ocean Cure HGP#011

We make a living by what we GET. We make a life by what we GIVE.” -Winston Churchill.

Summertime is when most teachers choose to relax…unless you’re Kevin Murphy. Kevin teaches 5th grade English at Mary C. Williams Elementary School August through June and then spends his entire summer giving back. Kevin and his awesome team of instructors offer free surf lessons to help people, who might not otherwise, spend time in the ocean. Kevin founded Ocean Cure over 10 years ago and serves a wide variety of groups: impoverished youth, gang survivors, wounded warriors and their families, people with disabilities, cancer survivors, and seniors, just to name a few. Research has already proven that spending time at the beach is good for your well being; Ocean Cure is proof that the ocean really does offer healing powers. I hope this week’s episode inspires people to help others. “Help your neighbor, help a stranger.”

Kevin also helped install a beach walkway for mobility impaired people to get to the beach this summer: http://www.wect.com/clip/14374579/ocean-cure-installs-walkway-to-help-mobility-impaired-people-get-to-the-beach.
